Periurban Vegetable Project (PUVeP)

Summary Report


Methodology

Through analysis of the economic, sociological, and anthropological situation of urban and periurban communities and small and medium-sized farm enterprises (SMEs) in these cities the different factors and constraints affecting and limiting the potential for vegetable production were evaluated and prioritized. Research institutes from the Philippines (Xavier University College of Agriculture/XUCA and Bukidnon Seed Corporation/Busecorp), Vietnam (Institute for Agricultural Science of South Vietnam/IAS) and Laos (Haddokkeo Horticultural Research Center/HHRC), assisted by partners from Germany (Institute of Vegetable Science, Technische Universität München/TUM) and France (Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research/CIRAD) introduced respectively developed production technologies that are environmentally benign, socially accepted and economically viable.
