GTZ & PUVeP Conduct Ecosan Reuse Training in Bohol

A two-and-a-half day “Training and Workshop on the Reuse of Ecosan Products and Vermicomposting” was conducted from May 20-22, 2008 at the Soil and Water Conservation Foundation (SWCF) Training Center in Roxas, Bilar, Bohol for users of urine-diversion dehydration toilets (UDDT) which were established in the province of Bohol by the DILG-GTZ Water and Sanitation Program.

Mr. Horacio S. Factura III, Intern of GTZ Water and Sanitation Program, currently assigned at the Periurban Vegetable Project (PUVeP) of Xavier University, was the main resource person, while Ms. Imelda Balbuena, Community Organizer of GTZ, facilitated the overall event.

There were twenty-two participants representing different stakeholders such as the Bohol Integrated Water Resources Management Team (BIWRMT), public schools, project beneficiaries, NGOs and local government units. The workshop aimed at enhancing the participants’ knowledge and skills about ecosan in general and its reuse aspects in particular .

The training was a combination of lectures and actual hands-on as regards vegetable production, secondary treatment for urine and faeces (aerobic composting and vermicomposting) as well as the safe application of treated ecosan products to different crops. A demo garden was set up at the training venue by the participants, who are expected to echo the training contents to other target groups in their respective areas of responsibility.
