Libertad Small Organic Farmers Association Exposure

40 members of the Matibog based Libertad Small Organic Farmers Association (LISOFA) visited the St. Ignatius Allotment Garden in Manresa last December 22, 2008 to become oriented and familiarized with the basic concept and components of ecological sanitation. The visit was facilitated by GreenMinds, a Cagayan de Oro based NGO, who is also a member of the Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP).

The group was guided by PUVeP entomologist Marcela D. Aggarao, who answered the numerous questions of the farmers, which focused particularly on the safe reuse of urine and faeces on different crops. GreenMinds is advocating the concept of ecological sanitation and planing to assist the LISOFA in establishing a UDD toilet in their organic demo farm in Malitbog, Bukidnon. As a remembrance for their visit, PUVeP Director Dr. Holmer gave a model of a urine-diversion bowl to the group.
