Geomatics Academic Conference held in SEARSOLIN

Xavier University College of Agriculture through PUVeP in cooperation with the Environmental Science for Social Change Inc. (ESSC) organized the first GIS conference in Cagayan de Oro entitled 'Geomatics Technology and its Potential Contributions to Development' in SEARSOLIN last January 24, 2007. The event was part of the 5th & final conference of the Geoteach Censophil project.

The project partners from Belgium, Germany as well as Bacolod participated this event and presented their various researches to the public. Guests and representatives from the different sectors of the local government including the City Local Planning Office, Department of Environmental & Natural Resources, organizations such as REIS of Tacloban, McKeough Marine Center and Kinaadman Research Center both of Xavier University, Ateneo de Davao University College Engineering, the private industry (BUSCO), students from XU and schools of Cagayan de Oro as well as representatives of the local media, actively participated the conference.

Clearly, the conference sparked new light to the public of the uses and benefits of GIS on their respective fields and opened new doors for collaborations between the government agencies as well as other colleges and universities.
