GIS Workshop Series
The first workshop entitled GIS: An Introduction was conducted from October 18-20, 2005 at the new Geomatics Laboratory, Room 204 of the College of Agriculture Bldg for 8 faculty members of the College of Agriculture and 2 faculty members of the Computer Center. The resource persons were Eng. Mark Alexis Sabines (Agricultural Engineering Dept.) and Yvette B. Guanzon (PUVeP). The objectives of the workshop were a) to give a brief background of the Geoteach Censophil project, b) to present the goals of the workshop and its timeframe and c) to introduce GIS and its fields of applications. Until the 2 nd workshop in March 2006, the participants will review the learnings and will identify potential courses for possible GIS applications. During the Workshop 2 the trainees will receive hands-on experience on GIS activities and will present their ideas for integration of GIS to the course syllabi. During a study period from April - Sept. 2006, the GIS amended syllabi and corresponding lectures and exercises will be prepared which will be presented during the final workshop in October 2006. It is expected that by November 2006, the GIS-amended courses will be already offered to Agriculture and Computer Science students.
The Geoteach Censophil Project also intends to offer a similar workshop series to other Colleges of Xavier University starting in March-April 2006. Interested parties may contact Engr. Mark Alexis Sabines or the PUVeP Office Back
