Second Geoteach Censophil Project Conference in Karlsruhe

The Geoteach Censophil Project, of which the College of Agriculture is the project coordinator, held its 2nd project conference at the University of Applied Science in Karlsruhe City, Germany from July 23 - 29, 2005.

The College was represented by PUVeP Director Dr. Robert J. Holmer as well as Eng. Mark Alexis O. Sabines of the Agricultural Engineering Department, and Yvette B. Guanzon of PUVeP.

Mr. Sabines and Mrs. Guanzon were awarded with a certificate for successfully attending a special course in Geomatics at the university for five months. Back in Cagayan de Oro, Mr. Sabines and Mrs. Guanzon will conduct the researches "Land Conversion in Urban Areas of Cagayan de Oro: Monitoring & Modelling Using GIS" and "Use of GIS for Mapping Open Spaces to Identify Potential Allotment Garden Sites in Cagayan de Oro City" to complete the geomatics training.

They will defend these researches in June 2006 at FUNDP University, Namur City, Belgium. Further, both trainees will introduce GIS to faculty and staff of the College for possible integration into academic and outreach course offerings.
