Superstar Chin-Chin Gutierrez Graces PUVeP with a Visit
Multi-awarded actress and Time Magazine Asian Heroine Ms. Chin-Chin Gutierrez surprised PUVeP with a visit last July 27, 2007. Ms. Gutierrez was in Cagayan de Oro for a fund-raising concert entitled "Uyayi: Womb Songs of the Filipino Spirit" at the Sta. Cruz Church, PN Roa Subdivision in Calaanan.
Ms. Gutierrez, a known environmentalist, was accompanied by outgoing SEARSOLIN director Dr. Anselmo B. Mercado to see the beauty of the St. Ignatius Allotment Garden, especially how it was managed and maintained for capacity building of students and farmers.
She was particularly interested in the Ecosan UDD toilet and the treadle pump, which she excitedly operated by herself. After a tour to the herbal garden, she also dropped by at the vermicomposting and aerobic composting areas as well as the bio-char experimental sites, where her questions were entertained by PUVeP staff Dr. Robert J. Holmer, Clarito A. Santos, Stephen O. Lee, Elmer G. Elorde, Arnel A. Aquino and Glenda Y. Sol.
Aside of sharing and exchanging information on sustainable food production and natural resources managements, Chin-Chin also took her time for personal conversation with PUVeP staff and her down-to-earth attitude impressed all of them and allowed them to feel comfortable in presence of this superstar.
It was also agreed to stay in close contact for a possible cooperation in community projects initiated by Ms. Gutierrez.
