NORMISIST Visit to Manresa
25 students plus on faculty members of the Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science & Technology (NORMISIST), Ampayon, Agusan Del Norte visited the PUVeP office on February 13, 2009.
The group of students with majors in Animal Husbandry, Agribusiness and Management were exposed to the St. Ignatius Allotment Garden and the different technologies displayed there.
One of the students asked Ms. Marcela Aggarao, PUVeP techncian, why flowers were planted inside a vegetable garden. She answered that aside of adding beauty, flowers also attract pollinators, such as bees, butterflies and other insects that will also enhance fruit set of different vegetables, and hence, increase yield.
After explored the UDD toilet, most of the students were surprised to hear that urine and faeces can be reused for agricultural purposes, provided that the undergo the prescribed treatment. The faculty was also very much interested to have one Ecosan toilet in their school campus, especially that most of the time they are short of water in their school.
