St. Gertrude of Nivelles Day 2007
The allotment gardeners of Cagayan de Oro in cooperation with PUVeP, the barangay of Macasandig and the city government of Cagayan de Oro celebrated the name day of St. Gertrude, the Patron Saint of gardeners and herbalists, on March 17, 2007 at the Beatrice-Niehoff-Allotment Garden in sitio Tambo, Macasandig. After an eucharistic celebration facilitated by Monsignor Elmer S. Abacahin, Hon. Aaron T. Neri, Sr., Chairman, Brgy. Macasandig welcomed the participants and congratulated them for their efforts. Eng. Alexis Maristaza. Assistant Dean extended the greeting of the College of Agriculture. After a floral offering by the community to St. Gertrude and a prayer for the gardeners, Dr. Bella Monse from the Health & Nutrition Section of the Department of Education gave a lecture on oral health and basic yygiene. This was followed by a deworming for Allotment Garden Families, since previous analysis showed a heavy infestion of the communities with hookworm, whipworm and roundworm. A trisikad parade of vegetables, flowers and fruits from garden site to barangay hall concluded this year’s event.
