IPSWaT Scholarship for Horacio S. Factura III

Horacio S. Factura III was awarded with an IPSWaT scholarship to conduct his Ph.D. thesis with the title “The Effect of Urine as a Source of Boron and Zinc on Physiological Parameters of Sweetcorn (Zea mays var. rugosa) and Mungbean (Vigna radiata) Grown with Biochar as Soil Amendment in Different Tropical Agro-Ecosystems in Northern Mindanao, Philippines “ under Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Otterpohl of the Institute of Wastewater Management and Water Protection, Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), and in cooperation with the Periurban Vegetable Project (PUVeP) of Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City.

IPSWaT is a scholarship program funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) which allows students and young scientists from all over the world to become Master and / or Ph.D students at a German University/University of Applied Sciences.


Horacio S. Factura graduated with a Master of Science degree in “International Horticulture, Major in Plant Nutrition” from the University of Hannover, Germany, in 2007 with a scholarship of the German Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD). Thereafter, he conducted a six-month internship at the Ecosan Program, GTZ Headquarters in Eschborn. The research study will commence on August 1, 2008 for a period of three years.
