Launching of Techno Demo Garden in Manresa

At the occasion of the Manresa Days 2007, PUVeP launched the so-called "Techno Demo Garden" at the St. Ignatius Allotment Garden in Manresa Farm on August 18, 2007.

The ribbon cutting was led by Aggie Dean Roel Ravenera, Estrella Borja, Associate Dean for Social Outreach and Robert Holmer, PUVeP Director, followed by the unveiling of the “St. Ignatius Prayer for Generosity” engraved in a marble plate placed along the staircase which leads to the Jesuit cemetery within the SEARSOLIN compound.

The guests, mostly allotment gardeners from different barangays of Cagayan de Oro as well as faculty, staff and students from the Aggie College witnessed then the demonstration of different technologies such as ecological sanitation with the "waterless" urine-diversion dehydration toilet, the aerobic composting and vermicomposting sites with the "bicycle shredder", the treadle pump, barrel drip irrigation with rain-water catchment, different pheromone traps, safe and effective use of crop protection products, green manuring, soil solarization and nematode-supressing cover crops.

The large-scale information boards describing each technology were availed with assistance of a grant fund of CIM, Germany. The weeding demonstration using a scythe by Stephen O. Lee closed the launching activity.
