Launching of the RUAF Christa Holtz Allotment Garden
On November 30, 2007, the "RUAF Christa Holtz Allotment Garden" was officially launched at the Material Recovery Facility Area, Sitio Tibasak in barangay Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.
This allotment garden is the 8th allotment garden of Cagayan de Oro City and the 2nd in barangay Macasandig. Financial assistance for establishing the garden was provided by the Cities Farming for the Future Program of the RUAF Foundation as well as Mrs. Christa Holtz, a German citizen. The garden is maintained by 11 urban poor families who mainly hail from the nearby resettlement area.
The event started with an invocation and National Anthem was led by Robert Punay, one of new allotment gardeners, followed by introduction of participants done by Elmer G. Elorde Jr., the PUVeP technician in charge for setting up the garden after Clarito A. Santos left for Germany last October 2007.

Hon. Aaron Neri, the Chairman of barangay Macasandig gave an inspiring welcome address to all who attended the event. Thereafter, the new garden was blessed by Rev. Fr. Steve Olario of San Antonio de Padua parish.

Messages for the different stakeholders were given for Xavier University and Ms. Christa Holtz by Dr. Robert J. Holmer (Director of PUVeP), for the "Cities Farming for the Future Program" by Dr. Robert Simmons (Regional Coordinator), for the GTZ Ecosan Program by Robert Gensch (Coordinator SuSanA Working Group on Food Security and Productive Sanitation Systems)and for the City Government of Cagayan de Oro City by Jocelyn M. Salcedo (CLENRO).

Mr. Eric Waban, Barangay Administrator and also one of the new gardeners, gave an inspiring reaction on behalf of the gardeners, expressing their thanks to everybody involved to the project, especially to RUAF-CFF and Ms. Christa Holtz, to make this project possible for them.

The launching of the new garden ended with a sumptuous fiesta meal.
