Tigum Kagayan-on Inc. Inspects Treadle Pump Project
On July 20, 2007, Mr. Ed Chavez, President of Tigum Kagayanon Inc., and his son Edgar Jr., visited the different project sites where treadle pumps have been established through a generous donation of this Community Service NGO (see also earlier news article).
Pictures and short videos were taken in the allotment gardens of Macasandig, Lapasan and Kauswagan to document the present status of the project. These will be shown during the next meeting of "Kagayanon International" in Las Vegas from September 27-31, 2007.
During the visits to the project sites, the allotment gardeners had the opportunity to express their gratitude for the treadle pumps, which allow them to pump water for irrigation from shallow wells with their leg force only.
Thereafter, a side trip was made to a machine shop in Barangay Balulang where two further treadle pumps are presently being fabricated at a cost of 8,500.- PhP per unit.
The last stop was made at the St. Ignatius Allotment Garden in Manresa Farm where a treadle pump has been set up for demonstration and training purposes for students, farmers and other interested parties. This pump, as well as a corresponding information board, were financed through a grant from the German agency CIM.
A joint lunch with all PUVeP members in Searsolin concluded the visit. Dr. Holmer took the opportunity to thank Tigum Kagayanon for their support and congratulated Mr. Stephen Lee, the coordinator of the treadle pump project, for a job well done.
